Session Spotlight

Battery Fire Responses: Outreach, Insurance, & Legislation

Fires caused by improperly disposed battery are having devastating impacts on all aspects of waste and recycling facilities, burning up infrastructure from collection trucks to processing facilities. This session will provide an overview of the magnitude of the problem, highlight efforts to encourage participants on where to properly place their batteries, the narrowing options for insuring facilities due to these fires, and legislation that could help address this problem. The session will include an update on the current proposal to include $3 billion in funding as part of the federal infrastructure-related INVEST Act.
