Since 2001 the University of Michigan’s Center for Sustainable Systems has developed a growing set of factsheets that cover topics including energy, water, food, waste, buildings, materials, and transportation systems. Each factsheet presents important patterns of use, life cycle impacts and sustainable solutions. They are designed to inform policymakers, business professionals, students and teachers. Eco-Facts are compiled by Eco-Cycle staff for general use. Eco-Cycle grants permission to reproduce some or all of these facts, provided name and website (www.ecocycle.org) accompanies all reproductions.
EPA Advancing Sustainable Materials Management: Facts and Figures
Each year EPA produces a report called Advancing Sustainable Materials Management: Facts and Figures, formerly called Municipal Solid Waste in the United States: Facts and Figures. It includes information on municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, recycling, and disposal. The 2013 report provides additional information. EPA also maintains a list of most state and local waste characterization studies.

Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI)
ISRI produces fact sheets and periodic reports detailing information on the state of the U.S. scrap recycling industry.
