Contamination is a complex issue that can’t be solved by any one silver bullet. This session features two presentations that include a primer into this complexity and outline a range of strategies to address it based on different situations. The first presentation will review a recent study commissioned by the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) that examined a broad swath of best practice strategies including education, program design, contracting, policy and more. The second presentation will focus more narrowly on the under-appreciated role that public-facing collection infrastructure in institutional and public space settings has to influence sorting behavior.  Both presentations will point to research demonstrating the effectiveness of the strategies covered and include specific case study examples.
